Austrian racing legends that have influenced F1 history such as Niki Lauda, Gerhard Berger and Co from over four decades of Formula 1 are to take back to their cars of the day for a parade in front of fans at the upcoming F1 meet in Spielberg.
On June 22nd the living legends will drive in the original cars from back in the day in celebration of Formula 1’s return to Austria.
Austria has strong routes in the history of Formula 1 – drivers such as Jochen Rindt, Helmut Marko, Dieter Quester, Niki Lauda, Hans Binder, Gerhard Berger, Karl Wendlinger, Alexander Wurz, Patrick Friesacher and Christian Klien are all well known names from F1’s history and will be taking part in the parade.
Fans in the sell out arena will have the opportunity to celebrate the legends and see the winning cars from the time in person as they will be parked for fans to see in the fan zone all weekend. For example Gerhard Berger will start in the Ferrari he won the race in Monza in back in 1988.
He said: "It was the most beautiful car I drove in my 15 year history of driving in Formula One. Its long nose and the incredible power from the back wheels was a statement which no other Formula One car has made again to date. It may take a while at the start but it will be wonderful once it gets going."
