Polish historians have begun a
protest campaign to sabotage James Bond star Daniel Craig's new film 'Defiance'
about Jewish freedom fighters.
The film tells the story of three Jewish
brothers living in Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II who join Russian
resistance fighters hunting the Nazis and save the lives of over 1,200
Jews.
Now protestors have demanded that Poland's Prime Minister Donald
Tusk and President Lech Kaczynski condemn the film for glorifying "common
criminals" as national heroes.
"We protest strongly against the release
of a film which totally falsifies the historical truth, presenting common
criminals as heroes.
"It offends the memory of hundreds of defenceless
Polish civilians murdered during the war," reads a letter to the
leaders.
Craig's character Tewje Bielski's has been accused by some
Polish historians of carrying out vicious purges of Polish civilians during his
guerrilla campaign.
