The boss of the prison where Josef Fritzl is detained while awaiting trial has revealed the dungeon demon has had a haircut by a fellow inmate.
Günther Mörwald, the head of Sankt Pölten jail, said: "You can imagine what he would look like today had we not made sure of that."
Instead of bringing in a local coiffeur, Mörwald ordered a jailed barber to make sure the incest beast looked neat for his trial at the town’s court next week.
Mörwald said: "We are fortunate to have a barber among prisoners who are in so many other occupations.
"We always had the highest security level, of course, when Fritzl had his hair cut."
Fritzl, who faces charges of murder, abuse, rape, slavery, incest and false imprisonment, is under the constant care of the prison doctor, who will accompany him during his five-day trial that starts on Monday.
But Mörwald stressed that, apart from that, Fritzl does not get any sort of special treatment – also as far as food is concerned.
On Sunday, all prisoners will have Teufelskotelett ("devil’s cutlet"), rice and cucumber salad for lunch.
