Classic piano manufacturer Bösendorfer announced today (Thurs) it would consolidate its operations in Wiener Neustadt, where it has had a production facility since 1973.
The firm said it would move its marketing and administrative operation from Vienna-Wieden to Wiener Neustadt in southern Lower Austria to achieve "substantial savings in fixed costs" and ensure its main location would remain in Austria.
The firm said it had already informed its Vienna employees of its plan. Any of them who rejected moving to Wiener Neustadt for "cogent reasons" would receive otherwise undescribed "transition assistance," it said.
Bösendorfer said it wanted to continue its engagement in Vienna concert houses and would continue concerts at "Bösendorfer Hall" at least through March 2010.
The firm said it would also retain its "Bösendorfer City Salon" at Vienna’s Musikverein, where it has been present since 1913. "The Salon will continue to be a representative sales address and meeting place for lovers of music," the firm added.
BAWAG bank sold Bösendorfer to the Japanese company Yamaha in January 2008.
