Director Niki List passed away aged 52

Austrian director Niki List died at the age of 52 on Wednesday.

List was considered one of the country’s most-important TV and film directors.

Forensic experts have yet to find out the cause of his death after the Vienna-born List collapsed at a party. Emergency rescue workers could only confirm his death upon arrival.

After engaging in various theatre projects, List worked as an actor before moving on to directing TV productions as well as films.

His detective musical "Müller’s Büro" starring Andreas Vitasek gave Austrian cinema a massive boost in 1986. Three years ago, the movie was turned into a stage production.

The satirical "Helden in Tirol" in 1998 was another List landmark.

List was awarded the Austrian Film Prize three times. Only this March, he was honoured with the title Professor.
