Angler tells the tooth

Russian angler Sergey Kolmakov, 43, bit off more than he could chew when he landed a flesh eating piranha in a Siberian river.

The razor-toothed tropical fish is believed to have been dumped in the river after growing too big for its aquarium - and somehow survived the freezing waters of the river Ob in Siberia, Russia.

Kolmakov said: "I never would have expected to see a tropical flesh eating fish in a river in Siberia - the water is freezing cold all the time."

Tests on the dead fish by vets showed it had traces of native fish in its stomach indicating it had adapted to survival in the freezing river.

Kolmakov added: "As soon as I saw the teeth I knew it was something different - but when I heard it was from the Amazon I was really surprised.

"I bet it was a shock to end up in the Ob," he said.
