The cowardly tiger

Tiger Heat

Tang Baihu a rare white tiger is one big flop when it comes to being king of the jungle.

First keepers had to abandon plans to restore his wild nature by feeding him live prey after a bull turned the tables on him and forced Tang to flee for his life.

Now it seems that randy Tang - who lives at Yancheng Zoo in Changzou, eastern China - can't even earn his stripes as a lover.

Keepers are scouring the world for a mate for Tang after his last would-be-partner rejected him and had to be separated from the keen but inexperienced big cat.

Zoo manager Xu Yiha explained: "When you're as rare as Tang is, that's a bit of a problem. It's not as if there are thousands of these animals we can chose from.

"He is sometimes too fussy for his own good."

White tigers are extinct in the wild and worldwide there are just a few hundred in zoos and wildlife parks.

"He is very depressed, off his food and listless and very keen to start breeding. We just need to find him a wife," said Xu.
