Hero 2012

Premier League star Edin Dzeko played the game of his life yesterday (Sunday) - to save a 17-year-old boy from dying of a rare bone marrow disease.

The Manchester City striker - whose national team-mates at Bosnia-Herzegovina are not competing in the Euro 2012 tournament - led a charity match in Sarajevo to raise cash for stricken Alen Maslo's treatment.

Dzeko has already pledged 20,000 GBP of his own cash to save the youngster, who travels to Germany this week to begin a series of operations.

The schoolboy's brother Almin said: "We have high hopes for the surgery and treatment. We are so thankful to Edin Dzeko that this has been made possible.

"We hope the treatment will be a success - and Alen can resume a normal life."
