Mum Beats Off Trio Of Thugs With Furious Assault To Rescue Baby

Spanish police have revealed how a trio of brutal robbers who planned to kidnap a baby girl and use her to force her parents into opening a safe were chased off after a furious assault by the baby's mother.

The trio had expected most of the trouble would come from the two-month-old baby girl's father Denis Awolowo, 37, and as he climbed out of the car with his family they attacked him, stabbing him to the ground and shouting: "grab the girl".

But they reckoned without the fury of his wife Jamila, 29, who despite weighting just 7 stone launched herself at the robbers scratching their faces, ripping out hair and biting them before scrambling back into the car and slamming the doors shut – and locking them.

Police spokesman Mampu Valadez said: "They were completely caught off guard by her fury, they thought after immobilising her husband it would be easy to grab the kid and get her to do what they wanted, but they reckoned without a mother's instinct to protect her child."

The young family had only just driven up to their home in the city of Almeria, in south-east Spain, when a gang who had been hiding pounced on them. They suspected that the family had cash and valuables at home, and tried to break in without success. When they saw the family arriving the came up with the idea of grabbing the kid, and using it to force the parents to do what they wanted."

The officer said that the young woman had used "enormous violence" on the men who after making a half-hearted effort to break the window to the car, had fled before police could arrive.

Three days later, Spanish police managed to identify one of the kidnappers, 41, a Spanish man, and after interviewing him have arrested his two accomplices, both aged 48, and from Morocco.

The father was not badly hurt from his stab wounds and is recovering in hospital. The family were originally from Morocco but settled in Spain to build a new life for themselves.
