Swan Survives A Life In The Fast Lane Of Swiss Motorway

A swan caused traffic chaos on a busy Swiss motorway after taking a rest – in the fast lane.

Despite the high-risk landing in the middle of the busy traffic the swan had an amazing escape when Swiss driver Claudio Marty, 32, slammed on the brakes stopping the traffic behind from running over the bird.

He said: "I heard the cars screeching to a halt behind me and there was almost an accident, but I didn't want to pull out and go past it because I was certain that it would then be run over. Fortunately a very short while later a police patrol car came up and stopped traffic so that they could try and capture the swan."

Police spokesman Adolf Lussi confirmed: "It is a mystery why the bird decided to land on the fast lane of a busy motorway. When the officers tried to capture it with a wool blanket it did take off so it obviously could fly but it didn't go very far. It only went short distance down the road and landed again, and this time they manage to capture it."

After bundling the swan into the patrol car to take it away from the busy road, traffic was able to flow again along the busy A2 in the direction of the city of Lucerne in north-central Switzerland.

Driver Claudio said: "I was really glad that it survived although I have no idea what possessed it to land on the fast lane of a busy motorway. It all worked out well and I wasn't even late for work at the end of the day."
