Scoop Doggy Dogs Message To Pet Owners To Clean Up

Scoop Doggy Dogs Message To Pet Owners To Clean Up

It is hardly a Michaelangelo or something that you might find in a London square. But a statue of a dog picking up its own business is to be unveiled in Russia this week.

The dog statue, over a metre high and made of vandal-proof steel, shows a hound standing on its back legs doing the job of cleaning ups its poop with a slogan saying: "Who's the animal?"

It is being unveiled in Yekaterinburg, the fourth largest city in Russia and the administrative centre of a huge region on the border with Asia and Europe.

Viktoria Melnik, director of the project "Clean Yard - Clean Conscience", said that the goal of the statue is to make people clean up after their beloved dogs.

"We are sick to death of mountains of dog s**t that litters the pavements, causes an unholy stink and mess and, what is worse, is a serious health hazard to adults and children alike, particularly the latter. They play with toys or their hands on the ground that then end up in their mouths with a serious health risk," she said.

"The waste can carry a parasite that can make a child go blind over time after eating it. This statue is about getting everyone to become more socially responsible."

The statue is to be unveiled at the "Pavlika Morozova" park and comes after previous campaigns to get dog owners to clean up after their pets - including free bags and pooper scoopers - all failed.

"We hope that this will hammer the message of cleanliness home," added Melnik.
