A bust up between the Chinese bus driver and taxi driver who he accused of pinching his customers ended when the taxi driver sped off with the bus driver clinging to the roof.
The row between taxi driver Fang Yang, 31, and bus driver Hsin Yen, 38, started when the outraged bus driver spotted the taxi driver had stopped at the bus stop and was offering to take some of his passengers to the end destination.
It is not uncommon for taxi drivers to try and persuade bus passengers to ride with them, often at a discount rate as it means they get to do the return journey into town with another paying fare. Because they know which route the bus would be taking them, they can be fairly sure they will find someone going in the direction they want to go.
But it is also illegal, so when the bus driver saw his passengers being pinched by the taxi driver in Xiaogan city in central China's Hubei province he stopped the bus, and called police. He also stood in front of the taxi to prevent it driving off, resulting in an altercation between the two men that involved them pushing and shoving each other.
In the end the taxi driver climbed back into his car and tried to drive off, forcing the bus driver the jump onto the bonnet and then as he picked up speed to cling onto the roof.
The bus driver was hitting the roof of the taxi denting it severely as the taxi driver meanwhile called the police requesting assistance and to be rescued from angry bus driver. After more than 20 miles he finally drove into a police station where both were arrested.
Police spokesman Jian Hsuehm 36, said: "Because the taxi driver was only going slowly there was little risk to the bus drivers life and after giving them a lecture about such foolish behaviour, they were cautioned and allowed to leave without any charges. Neither of the men press charges against the other, they seem to feel it already gone too far."
