Hells Kitchen Star Claims Radar Trap Was Man In A Mask

Hells Kitchen Star Claims Radar Trap Was Man In A Mask

A chef dubbed Germany's Gordon Ramsay is refusing to pay a speeding ticket despite being snapped going through a radar trap.

German Frank Rosin, a two star Michelin chef, claims the person driving his car was using a cut out facemask of himself which had been printed in a local newspaper.

'Hell's kitchen' is one of the most popular programmes on German television - but instead of Ramsay it is presented by Rosin.

Under German law, in order to make sure there is no doubt who was driving, the country's radar speed traps are front-facing, so they photograph not just the number plate but the face of the driver as well.

The snap taken at Dorsten, a town in Germany's North Rhine Westphalia, shows Rosin speeding with his six series BMW going at 62 kilometres an hour in a 30 kilometre an hour zone.

As a result he got through the post a one month driving ban and a 292 Euro (237 GBP) fine.

But his lawyer Burkhard Benecken told the court: "The picture shows him but it was not him driving."

Rosin said: "I categorically deny that that picture is me. I often loan my BMW to acquaintances, friends and even staff. And I know that there were several of the masks with my head on it in the car – I have about 20 copies with various expressions which were given to me by fans after I went to a carnival earlier in the year."

He said that he had allowed the car to be passed around among people in his circle and had not driven it all himself since June 2013. The photograph itself was taken on July 2013.

The court is now asking an expert to look at the pictures and see whether it can be identified if it was a facemask.
