Authorities in China are probing a bizarre abuse case where a stressed out bus driver passed out after enduring a stream of verbal barrage from a pensioner passenger.
The female bus driver had simply pointed out that the OAP had come on board the bus through the exit door, a harmless remark that triggered a flow of invective.
Because bus company staff in Nanjing, a city in eastern China, are instructed to remain polite at all times and not engage in rows with their customers, the driver had to endure close to five minutes of abuse before she finally flaked out.
Passengers aboard came to her rescue as the rude OAP waddled off the vehicle and continued her journey on foot.
Xian Xiaping, a passenger, told a reporter: "She went on and on and on - and then went on some more. The driver was getting redder and redder in the face and then people who were also on the bus started demanding that it set off because we were going nowhere and going to be late for work.
"It seemed to have been a tirade that started about the wrong exit but then became very personal about the driver's appearance and her family. You couldn't call it a row because a row requires the participation of two people, and there was only one doing all the shouting.
"The old woman used quite dirty words to insult the bus driver. It’s not wise for a bus driver to have row with a passenger. Perhaps if the passenger had been younger the driver might have said something, but she was an old woman and so she kept her tongue silent."
Later driver Zhi Shen, 39, who was praised by her firm for her patience, said: "I was getting so angry because of the terrible things she said, but I know my company's policy and so I kept silent. In the end my fury boiled over internally and I just fainted at the wheel."
After she passed out the angry pensioner left the bus and other passengers came to the aid of the driver. Police said they are looking for the foul-mouthed senior to give her a warning about behaving properly in public.
