Twitter profile of Mexican man who jumped from the cruise ship to impress a woman has activity

Managers of a cruise liner where a drunken football fan jumped into the sea have released a video showing the moment he plunged into the water after reports surfaced that the man might not have fallen overboard after all.

The claims that Jorge Alberto Lopez might actually still be alive surfaced after media in his Mexican homeland discovered that his twitter account still being actively used with three posts happening after his death.

But cruise liner officials said that the man had definitely vanished from the ship and that it had been valid to put out an alert which sparked a search for the missing 20-year-old that included ships of the Brazilian Navy getting involved.

The video from the ship shows a small black dot that appears to be a person falling quickly down the side of the massive vessel, before hitting the water with a large splash.

The video was shot on June 18, the same day that this one message was posted on the man's twitter account. But after that there were three further posts, one advertising the schedule for the Mexico Croatia game, another talking about a new type of software and a third advertising service helping people to remember their online account passwords.

Police who have been made aware of the activity on the man's account say they are looking into whether the twitter account program to automatically upload new information, and another that the account possibly been hacked.

Amores was reportedly on the deck of the cruise liner MSC Divina when he plunged over the railings into the ocean below apparently showing off in front of a female journalist.

Shocked passengers alerted the ship's crew which slowed the massive vessel and turned it around to look for him.

But the manoeuvre took over an hour and by the time the ship had returned to the spot where he took his dive he was nowhere to be seen.

The son of a wealthy lawyer, Mr Amores was one of 3,000 people aboard the ship that is cruising around Brazil, taking in football matches en-route.

Pepe Guardilo, a fellow passenger, said: 'I saw him chatting up a pretty female journalist aboard the ship.

'He was animated, a result of too much booze and the team doing so well so far in the tournament.

'I heard him say to her: 'I am so happy that I can fly! Look at me!' And with that he stuck his arms out and dived overboard.

'The ship was moving at a fair clip and he vanished into the foam created in the ship's wake.

Brazil's coastal waters are filled with dangerous currents not to mention sharks, with government officials in some coastal areas increasing lifeguard numbers and erecting signs in English to warn World Cup tourists about sharks.

Although the Brazilian navy has joined in the hunt for Mr Amores, the chances of him being found alive are slim.

However, the fact that his twitter account has shown activity has given fresh hope to his family and his girlfriend posted on her Twitter account that she believes he still alive, saying: "Please, I know you are ok! I do not want to believe in anything just have faith in God that will bring you back to me. Please, tell me you are okay! I only ask God to have you by my side to see you again. I love you and you know! Jorge Amores, we will always be together, as we said from the beginning".
