A Russian TV star who refused to pay 17,000 GBP demanded by blackmailers after they hacked her iCloud account has had intimate photographs which she took of herself released online and to the media.
Actress and presenter Ksenia Borodina, 31, said the fact that the pictures had been released and widely republished had left her devastated.
She said: "I got a request for 1 million rubles threatening to publish intimate photographs of myself unless the money was paid within a week. I didn't believe it at first that they really had the pictures, until they sent them back to me and then I instantly contacted the police."
The 31-year-old who studied for several years in England before returning to Russia and landed a leading role as a TV presenter and later as an actress and was married to the Russian businessman Yuriy Budagov.
The problem of hackers stealing intimate and personal data is a growing one in Russia where there have been several high-profile attacks on Russian celebrities who have had information and pictures stolen.
She said: "I refused to pay the money and as a result they did as they threatened."
The couple had a child together, Maria Budagova aged five, before divorcing in 2011 and she said she was worried about the fact that her daughter might eventually see the pictures more than anything else.
Police are trying to work out how the hackers got access to the woman's private iCloud and had been testing the computer she has at her home in Moscow for clues.
