Kids Aged 5 In Bikini Fashion Show

Kids Aged 5 In Bikini Fashion Show

Proud parents at a Chinese primary school decided to stage a fashion show with girls in bikinis and boys dressed as superheroes to celebrate their 'graduation' from the nursery class.

The parents were inspired by a new trend towards college graduation photos that see students celebrate the successful completion of years of hard work with spectacular images as a memento for the future.

But now the trend has spread not just to schools but also to nurseries – with these kids aged five at the Changtian Kindergarten in the city of Wenling in eastern China's Zhejiang province allowed to dress up and parade down the catwalk in front of their proud parents.

And the show was packed with people photographing their offspring wearing the latest fashion in swimsuits for the girls – and the superhero outfits for the boys.

The images were widely used in Chinese media where they quickly attracted attention ranging from people who thought it was cute through to others who suggested it was not a good example to set the kids.

The parents however have defended themselves against critics. With a one child policy still in operation the country has created families where every child is given an excess of attention and parents waste little opportunity to show off their offspring and boast of their achievements - and looks.

Beijing child psychologist Kang Hsieh said: "Children should be allowed to dress up, role-playing is part of childhood, but the element of competition at this age is not necessarily healthy with the children vying for the best costumes and prizes based on how they look."
