Partygoer Impaled On Spike After Taking Short Cut Home

Partygoer Impaled On Spike After Taking Short Cut Home

A Chinese man eager to get back home to his bed after a night partying with pals ended up impaled on a spiked fence when he slipped while taking a short cut.

Wu Hsiung, 30, had been at a friend's house for the party in the central Chinese city of Wuhan until 5am when he decided to head home with three friends, and they suggested he followed them in a short cut over the spiked metal fence.

From his hospital bed he said: "I am a stranger here so wasn't sure of the best way to get home and so I just followed my pals. I was the last one to climb, after the other three had already hopped over. But I slipped, and although I try to make sure I dropped backwards away from the spikes, one of them impaled my arm pinning me firmly in place."

The man admitted that after drinking plenty it had not hurt as much as it did later. Firemen who turned up after being called by a local shopkeeper who witnessed the incident had quickly cut him free and then arranged for him to be taken by ambulance to hospital.

Their doctors said it was amazing that the spike had missed all major blood vessels and after they keep him inside for a week to make sure there is no infection, he should be able to go home and eventually make a full recovery.
