It took a lot of bottle to break this world record - 104,502 of them to be precise.
Now this bizarre bridge's constructors are seeking to be officially acknowledged as the creators of the planet's largest ever plastic bottle structure in the world.
The 75 foot bridge was built in Timisoara, a city in western Romania, across the Bega Canal on a budget of just 10,000 Euros (8,000 GBP) by volunteers and charities working with EcoStuff Romania.
Bottles held in cage framed wedge shaped pods were fixed together to create the circular crossing covered in timber decking.
Volunteer Andrei Popescu explained: "We wanted to raise people's awareness of the terrible waste caused by plastic bottles.
"The best way of doing this was to do something very big that would really get their attention."
EcoStuff spokesman Radu Rusu added: "We are trying to beat the world record in order to raise awareness about the enormous quantities of litter dumped every day in the rivers and in the oceans around the world."
"Plastic bottles should not end up in the water, that's our message," he added.
Now organisers are contacting Guinness World Records for official recognition of the structure.
"Everything was done to their standards and independently monitored so we have high hopes of success," said one.
