Hochtief Austria gets €50mn deal to build Salzburg station

The Austrian subsidiary of German construction firm Hochtief is to build Salzburg’s new main railway station in a 50 million Euro-deal, it was announced today (Mon).

The newspaper WirtschaftsBlatt reported today that the Austrian agency responsible for overseeing contract awards had rejected a complaint by Austrian construction firm Strabag about Hochtief’s subsidiary being given the job.

Hochtief-Construction-Austria chief Michael Salzmann said construction of the railway station was "an important and prestigious project that will make possible some follow-on contracts."

He added that the station, with 25,000 passengers daily, would be one of the most-important transport hubs in Austria.

Construction of the railway station should be finished by December 2014.
