Japanese car producer Toyota will recall 19,003 cars because of accelerator pedal problems, according to importer Toyota Frey Austria.
It said today (Tues) the number was around 50 per cent lower than that of 34,766 originally expected to be recalled.
Toyota Frey said owners of cars to be recalled would receive a letter of notification from the Association of Austrian Insurance Firms (VVO).
Toyota Frey said repair would take a short time and owners could wait for completion of it at maintenance facilities. The affected models are the Aygo, iQ, Yaris, Auris, Corolla Limousine, Verso, Avensis and RAV4.
Owners can visit www.toyota.at to see if their cars may have sticking accelerator pedals.
Toyota Frey added that owners of 519 Toyota Prius models would also receive a letter from VVO because of problems in anti-lock breaking systems which can be corrected with a software update.
The Prius models in question include those manufactured between 7 April 2009 and 27 January 2010.
