New control tower for Salzburg airport
Salzburg Airport is to get a new 10 million Euro control tower.
The airport will build the 45-metre tower together with federal air traffic control agency Austro Control, it was announced today (Fri).
The new tower will be located 30 metres west of the present one, which is 40 years old.
Construction will begin in early 2011, and the tower will go into service at the end of 2012.
The new tower will have state-of-the-art flight safety technology giving it the same standards as Vienna International Airport.
New navigation aids will also be installed to enable more precise control of incoming and outgoing flights.
Airport chief Roland Hermann said: "After 40 years, it is time to turn the airport into one of the most modern international facilities with the highest quality standards."
