Fischer expresses support for women
President Heinz Fischer expressed his support for women’s equality yesterday (Sun) on the eve of today's (Mon) International Women’s Day (IWD).
He said: "It is important to me again to say to women that they have my full support for their demands."
Fischer called for measures concerning reconciliation of work and family life and more childcare institutions such as free kindergartens and all-day schools.
The president also called for more women in senior positions in business and politics and the elevation of so-called gender mainstreaming to the status of a standard.
