Austrian firms line up for Bulgarian assignments
More than 20 Austrian companies have expressed interest in participating in the construction of the Bulgarian road and railroad infrastructure, according to reports by local media from today (Fri).
Firms such as Alpine, Evonik Para-Chemie and market leader Strabag SE took part in the Bulgarian "Transport Infrastructure Forum" to express their desire to be included in projects in the country.
Gerhard Reiweger, the Austrian Ambassador to Sofia, stressed Bulgaria must benefit from the Austrian experience in absorbing funds from the European Union’s (EU) operational program "Transport". The country currently lacks good projects, which is the main reason why it misses out on European financing, according to Reiweger.
Bulgarian Deputy Regional Minister Georgi Pregiov said the ministry was currently working on modernisation and repairs of highways and main roads throughout the country.
Bulgaria has received hundreds of millions of EU subsidies for road construction and renovation projects and is set to receive 1.3 billion Euros in EU financing between 2014 and 2200.
