The vast majority of tenants pay too much rent, according to research.
The Austrian Tenants’ Association (MVÖ) said today (Tues) its investigations have shown that 90 per cent of lodgers were asked to cough up more every month than their flats were worth.
MVÖ urged tenants to check their apartments’ rent rates and demand the surplus back from their landlords, Vienna daily Heute reports.
Real estate firm Re/Max said recently building sites and owner-occupied flats changed their owners for 8.8 billion Euros last year, up by 10.3 per cent compared to 2008 statistics. The company added an overall 45,366 objects were sold in 2009.
Most money was traditionally spent in Vienna which grabbed a 26.8 per cent stake of overall sums, while eastern Burgenland came last among Austria’s nine provinces (1.4 per cent), according to Re/Max.
