The growing importance of the Internet in the tourism business was stressed when 500 professionals attended the eTourismus 2012 at the FH Salzburg recently.
The main aim of the meeting was to inform the participants about the latest trends in the online tourism business and to analyse future trends.
The meeting heard that one of the most successful ways of making sure there was success in online tourism was making sure there was investment in staff training as they needed to be kept constantly aware of the latest trends and able to use the medium to properly communicate with customers.
One of the main tourism factors influenced by the Internet was consumers using it in order to evaluate hotels using social media.
Alex Fritsch said it had an enormous impact on how people selected which hotel to stay at.
Many companies needed to do more to improve the ability for tourists to use their online page in order to make bookings, the congress heard.
Congress participants were advised on ways to maximise the conversion rate in which visits to the site were converted into orders.
The congress was aimed at people who have just come into the business as well as people who have been active for many years and in particular for those wanting to learn something new and open up fresh possibilities.
