Incest monster Josef Fritzl is on the verge of a nervous breakdown after realising he will spend the rest of his life in jail, it emerged today (Thurs).
Medics believe the baby killer is showing early signs of dementia and memory loss after just five weeks in Lower Austria's tough Stein jail where he is likely to die behind bars.
Fritzl, convicted of incest, rape and the false imprisonment of his daughter Elisabeth, spends his days staring blankly at the walls and is terrified of contact with other inmates, reports Austrian newspaper Österreich. Prison authorities are now so concerned, it is claimed, that they are considering transferring him to a psychiatric jail ward for his own safety.
The 74-year-old is taunted by inmates whenever they get a glimpse of him shouting: "Where's the nut?"
And they mock his memory loss by saying he's the perfect man to hide Easter eggs for children because he'll forget where he stashed them, reports the newspaper.
Fritzl had planned to spend his days writing his memoirs but has been banned from writing them by the Austrian Justice Ministry. Now he spends his days even refusing to watch TV alone in his cell, reading, usually staring at blank pages with a pen in his hand, apparently at a loss to find anything to write.
