Vienna woman found dead in boyfriend’s bed

Police are investigating after a woman was found dead in her boyfriend’s bed in Vienna-Leopoldstadt this morning (Weds).
Police spokeswoman Karin Strycek said the woman’s boyfriend, an unemployed 39-year-old man, had called police at 7:30am and said he had found his 33-year-old girlfriend’s lifeless body when he awoke in his one-room apartment on Lampigasse.
She had a wound to the back of her head
Strycek said: "He said the woman had consumed alcohol and pills yesterday evening but he had taken only sleeping pills." She added he had no idea how she had hurt herself.
The spokeswoman said a court doctor had examined the woman’s body but had seen nothing that could have resulted in her death and an autopsy would now be carried out.
Strycek said police had found empty medication containers and bottles of alcohol in the apartment.
She added that neighbours had told officers that the couple had frequently quarrelled and physically attacked each other.
