Pranksters thought to have removed manholes across the province have been tracked down by police in Upper Austria.
Officers in the district of Perg said today (Thurs) three youths aged between 16 and 17 from Perg and Scheibbs, Lower Austria, are accused of opening around 20 manholes on the B3 Donaustraße main road in September.
No one was injured as traffic workers closed them the same night.
The teenagers were released after being questioned but could face charges after prosecutors in Linz said they were examining the incident.
The news comes just days after a two-year-old fell down a shaft when its cover broke under his weight as he walked with his mother in Baden, Lower Austria.
The boy suffered light injuries while investigations continue.
