Austrian drowns on Vietnam holiday

By Thomas Hochwarter

An Upper Austrian woman has been killed in a swimming accident in Vietnam.

Linz police today (Mon) confirmed radio reports claiming the 63-year-old from Altmünster in Gmunden district was killed as she swam in the South China Sea at Phan Thiet beach.

A friend of the woman had to be hospitalised after he almost drowned trying to rescue the woman in what he said was a strong current.

It is not clear yet when the body of the woman, who had one daughter and three grandchildren, will be flown to Austria.
