Tyrol towns without power for ten hours

Two Tyrol towns were left without electricity for ten hours yesterday (Sun) after a fault in an underground supply cable.

More than 3,000 people in Achenkirch and Steinberg am Rofan in Tyrol were affected by the power cut which started at around 11:40am.

Fire departments delivered generators to people’s homes to help them heat, but six members of a family were hospitalised for inhalation of poisonous gases when they used their own portable generator in their garage but flooded their house with fumes when they forgot to close the garage door.

They are all recovering.

Power was finally restored at around 10pm.
