Electricity outage at Vienna's AKH hospital

There was a short electricity outage at Vienna General Hospital (AKH) yesterday (Weds) afternoon, AKH chief Reinhard Krepler said.

Batteries supplied an emergency supply of electricity in critical areas and no damage occurred during the outage, which lasted from 3:39pm to 3:50pm, he added.

Krepler said patients had been affected by the outage mostly in terms of reduced light and malfunctioning lifts, from which everyone was able to leave.

"It is a situation that affects us once a year on average, and we are analysing its causes and examining whether we need to take measures to ensure a secure supply of electricity in the future," he added.

A defect in the Michelbeuern transmission station near the hospital might have been the cause, he noted.
