Man's leg partially amputated after accident
Doctors had to amputate part of worker's right leg yesterday (Thurs) after he inadvertently stuck it into a cutting machine in Schwanenstadt in Upper Austria’s Vöcklabruck district, police said.
The man, 35, was helping a colleague adjust the machine at a carpentry shop when his leg got chopped.
Rescuers took the man by helicopter to a hospital in Linz, where he underwent emergency surgery during which doctors had to amputate part of his leg.
They said the man was in stable condition in intensive care but the next few days would be decisive for blood circulation in what remained of his leg.
In a similar accident, a 71-year-old man was rushed to hospital on Wednesday after his lower left leg got caught in a wood splitting machine.
Police in Welten in Burgenland’s Jennersdorf district said a friend of the man who was present managed to turn the machine off before it severed the entire leg.
The pensioner was taken to a hospital in Feldbach.
