Student saved from avalanche

A student was saved by her mates on Saturday when they dug her out of the snow after she was caught in an avalanche, police said.

The young woman who was skiing near Obergurgl in Tyrol’s Imst district was hit by the avalanche in a steep, rocky area and wound up buried under half a metre of snow.

Her two male companions quickly located her thanks to her sensor and dig her out.

She was helicoptered to a nearby hospital where doctors said she was only slightly injured.
