A train derailed last night (Mon) on Vienna’s U6 underground line.
A spokesman for Wiener Linien, the capital’s public transport agency, has said no one was injured in the incident which occurred at around 20 kilometres per hour near Westbahnhof station.
"All passengers exited the train without any complications. They were led to Längenfeldgasse to continue their journey from there," the spokesman said today, adding that service on the affected U-Bahn route had been abandoned for several hours before going back to normal this morning.
A somewhat more dramatic incident occurred in April when dozens of passengers at the Landstraße station suffered breathing complications after an unknown substance was released. Three people were hospitalised.
Officials explained at that time it was unclear whether the incident was an attempted terrorist attack or a technical failure. They have made no mention of it since.
