A decision to allow a shooting club to practice in a school sports hall sparked a major terror alert this week when an armed man was spotted walking into the building.
The worried passerby that saw the man entering the school at Oberau in Austria called police and armed special forces quickly surrounded the building to search for the suspect.
They discovered the man on the makeshift shooting range and although he explained that the shooting club had legally rented the space the man is still facing consequences over the action.
The shooting club said that their arrangement was that they could only use the property after school hours and that the man should not have been taking weapons there during school time.
Shooting club president Wolfgang Bobleter apologised for the incident and said that in fact they had often used the rooms many times before, but had always had access through a rear door – but since the school had been renovated they had been forced to go through the front door where it was more visible to the public.
