Best Hotel in Austria is in Salzburg region

The Salzburger Hof in Zell am See in Salzburg State has been voted Austria's hotel of the year .

The testers from Gault Millau praised the five-star hotel for its facilities and also the quality of service.

Guests are always welcome and personally by the senior manager Gisela Holleis and she's also on hand as well to wish them a safe journey when they leave, a factor which weighed heavily in the hotel's favour.

Speaking after the award was announced she said: "Guests are always happy when they see a friendly face and it encourages people to come back. Many people tell me they feel that this place is like a second home and that makes me very happy."

The hotel also won plaudits from the testers for the facilities which have been extensively upgraded at great cost in recent years.

She said: "It is important to have good facilities but the biggest investment has to be in staff. I would not describe us as a luxury hotel – I would describe us as a hotel that people rate because of our comfortable and welcoming atmosphere."

But the cuisine at the hotel was also much praised.

Head cook Marcel Schneider said: "If there are any problems we can always go to her directly which always solves everything in a swift and on bureaucratic way."

And despite the honour of the hotel said they would not be resting on their laurels. Gisela Holleis added: "You need to carry on working hard every day to make sure we meet the standards of guests expect."
