Pair bike to Gibralta as pre-wedding test

By Rob Hyde

A pair who biked to Gibralta as a pre-wedding test of their relationship, have returned to Austria.

The couple had cycled from Hollenthon in Lower Austria to the rock of Gibralta, then flew back to Vienna, before biking the rest of the way home. They had journeyed all the way to the tiny British Overseas Territory to test whether they could handle a stressful situation together.

Lisi, 28, and Karl, 29, succeeded in their mission, and having decided they were sufficiently equipped to handle married life together, have since been married at the registry office.

Over 1,700 fans supported Lisi and Karl via the popular social media network, Facebook, as they made their away through Europe.

According to figures from research institute Statistik Austria, in 2012 there were 2347,300 families in Austria, and 977,700 married couples, which account for 41.7 per cent of families.

In Austria the legal age for marriage in 18, however  persons at least 16 years of age may be entitled to marry if they are able to submit written, notarized consent from both parents, and providing that the other spouse is at least 18 years old.
