Looking ahead to the Easter markets in Vienna

With Easter just around the corner, Vienna is getting geared up for another season of markets selling classic and contemporary handmade crafts.

In front of Schoenbrunn Palace around sixty merchants will set up shop between 5th and 21st April, celebrating traditional Easter customs and selling art and crafts including jewellery, wood and glass carvings, and Easter gifts.

The event outside the old Habsburg palace will also include food stalls, selling a range of eggs and culinary specialities from around Austria.

The Old Viennese Easter Market in the city's Inner Stadt will also see around fifty stalls setting up on Freyung just outside the Schottenkirche church. As well as shopping for handicrafts, visitors can also marvel at Europe's largest mountain of decorated Easter eggs - 40,000 in total - in the square in front of the church.

The old Easter market also provides entertainment for children, including puppet shows and a rabbit enclosure.

To find out more about Easter festivities around the city visit www.ostermarkt.co.at, www.altwiener-markt.at/ostermarkt or www.kunsthandweksmarkt.at
