Greens accuse SPÖ of wrongdoing in Grödig

The Social Democrats (SPÖ) have come under fire from the Green Party for supposedly promising homes in a new apartment block in Grödig to SPÖ officials or their family members.

According to Konrad Egger, of the Green party in Grödig, at least three of the 41 apartments built have been secured by the SPÖ, despite the fact that public procurement directives rule that they should not get them.

Egger said that the SPÖ had been promised terrace apartments on the top floor, even though two of them didn't appear on the application list for homes and the other ranked number 49.

The SPÖ leader in the Grödiger region leader Othmar Danninger has hit back at the accusations, claiming Egger is just making noise ahead of election campaigns.

"There is no hanky-panky of any form here," Danninger said.

Grödiger Mayor Richard Hemetsberger (ÖVP) has not commented directly on the allegations other than to say that his people had always been told that the list of apartment advertisers had been prepared in accordance with Grödiger criteria.
