Salzburg FC look to continue winning streak tonight

Red Bull Salzburg will be hoping to continue their impressive winning streak in the UEFA Europa League with a win tonight against Swiss side Basel.

The Austrian side, who have won 14 consecutive matches in a row, will head into the match with some degree of confidence following their incredible defeat of Dutch side Ajax 6-1 in the previous round of the competition.

In today's first leg match in the round where the final 16 teams battle it out, expectations for a good performance from Austrian striker Jonathan Soriano will be high. Soriano, 28, has been the top scorer in the championship league with ten goals, and a total of 36 across all competitions this season.

Head coach Roger Schmidt has described the match against Basel as the "most important game of the season" for Salzburg team.

"We must pull our weight and play as we did in our two games against Ajax, and if we do that we are capable of getting a good result," he said.

The Basel side are also fairly strong recently seeing ten consecutive wins in matches across all competitions in the season. However, recent weeks have seen them struggling with draws in the Swiss Super League.

Tonight's match is taking place at St-Jakob Park in Basel with kick off at 19:00 local time.
