What is on at Haydn Kino this week (27 March - 2 April)

The following films are on at the English language cinema Haydn Kino on Mariahilfestrasse between 27 March and 2 April:

Her: A lonely writer develops an unlikely relationship with his newly purchased operating system that's designed to meet his every need. Spike Jonze directs this touching, if slightly unusual romance film, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson.

Monuments Men: An unlikely World War II platoon is tasked to rescue art masterpieces from Nazi thieves and return them to their owners. Written, directed and starring George Clooney. Impressive cast including Matt Damon, John Goodman, Cate Blanchett, and Bill Murray.

Dallas Buyers Club: In 1985 Dallas, electrician and hustler Ron Woodroof works around the system to help AIDS patients get the medication they need after he is himself diagnosed with the disease. A true story featuring a very slimmed down Matthew McConaughey, who got his weight down to 10 stone to play the part of HIV+ Woodroof. Real life Woodroof told his incredible tale to screenwriter Craig Borten just a month before he died - and it took a further 20 years to get the film made.

12 years a Slave: is based on the true story of one man's fight for survival and freedom. In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender), as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Brad Pitt) will forever alter his life.

The Grand Budapest Hotel: The adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. The latest from writer and director Wes Anderson and featuring a mega super cast including Ralph Fiennes, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Saoirse Ronan, Edward Norton, and William Dafoe.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman 3D: Mr. Peabody, the most accomplished dog in the world, and his mischievous boy Sherman, use their time machine - The WABAC - to go on the most outrageous adventures known to man or dog. But when Sherman takes The WABAC out for a joyride to impress his friend Penny, they accidentally rip a hole in the universe, wreaking havoc on the most important events in world history. Before they forever alter the past, present and future, Mr. Peabody must come to their rescue, ultimately facing the most daunting challenge of any era: figuring out how to be a parent. Together, the time traveling trio will make their mark on history.

Need for Speed 3D: Fresh from prison, a street racer who was framed by a wealthy business associate joins a cross country race with revenge in mind. His ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head as the race begins.

August Osage: This tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them.

300: Rise of an Empire 3D: Greek general Themistokles leads the charge against invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Lone Survivor: Marcus Luttrell and his team set out on a mission to capture or kill notorious Taliban leader Ahmad Shah, in late June 2005. Marcus and his team are left to fight for their lives in one of the most valiant efforts of modern warfare.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier: After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk.
