A classical concert that will open Vienna's Life Ball weekend in May 2014 will feature performances from opera singer Anna Netrebko and other world famous artists.
The Red Ribbon Celebration Concert 2014 taking place on 30 May embraces the cause of fighting HIV and AIDS around the world that is core to the Life Ball event following the next evening, with all money raised going to the event's long term partner Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI).
Founder of CHAI, former US President Bill Clinton will be in the audience on the concert night where as well as Netrebko he will be treated to performances from singers Vesselina Kasarova, Jennifer O’Loughlin, Juan Diego Flórez, Yusif Eyvazov, and Luca Pisaroni.
Actors, including Hollywood actress Marcia Cross, will also be there to do readings throughout the evening - joining Cross on the bill are Andrea Jonasson-Strehler, Elisabeth Orth, and Ben Becker.
One of the main focus of the charity campaign this year is tackling mother to child HIV transmission. Of the 700 children who contract HIV per day, ninety percent them come from mothers in sub-Saharan Africa who transmit the disease to their children, often during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding.
"Reducing the mother-to-child transmission of HIV is one of the central strategies on the way to a future without HIV and AIDS. Unfortunately, way too few mothers know how to protect their newborns from HIV – or they are not even aware of their own HIV status," Life Ball organizer Gery Keszler says.
This is a key area where donations made by buying Red Ribbon Celebration Concert ticket will help. Due to go on sale April 17 the concert tickets can be bought either at box offices in Burgtheater, Volksoper, Austrian Bundestheater central ticket offices, by calling +43 (0)1 513 1 513 or buying online at www.burgtheater.at or www.culturall.com.
