Wife files for divorce after husband shoots pet ram

A 70-year-old Austrian woman has filed for divorce from her husband after he killed her pet ram whilst shooting near their home on the South of France.

The relationship between the wealthy married couple who spend their time living between England, France, Austria and Lebanon had reportedly been breaking down for some time but divorce proceeding began after the 68-year-old husband shot of his wife's beloved pet ram, caused a 'very animated' dispute at the couple's home.

Between them the couple owned a £15 million 'ambassadorial' house in London, which was described as 'very substantial' and includes a live-in housekeeper. The husband is a businessman who has 'a passion' for shooting and fine wine.

The Austrian wife has demanded a £393,000 annual maintenance from her husband to lease a spare house and car in London, buy clothes, shoes and flights and tens of thousands for a summer holiday. She also asked for a further £18,000 to cover restaurant bills.

The woman has filed for the divorce in the UK, whereas the husband is carrying out proceedings in Austria, leading to judge presiding over the case in the UK to highlight the case as 'divorce tourism'.

Mr Justice Mostyn said: 'It is perfectly obvious what the motives of the parties were in issuing proceedings respectively in England and Austria. The wife obviously believes that she will be afforded more generous treatment by this court than in the court of her homeland.  The husband believes that he will be afforded more conservative and, therefore to him, more generous treatment in the court of his wife's homeland.'

Shopping around different countries for the best divorce settlement is not illegal.
