First acts for Donauinselfest announced

The first acts for the 2014 annual Donauinselfest taking place in Vienna have been announced by organisers, with Macy Gray among the artists headlining the festival.

SPÖ provincial party secretary Christian Deutsch and project manager at the festival Thomas Waldner released the names of the first artists confirmed to be on the bill of the festival in a press conference on Wednesday.

Joining Macy Gray are acts Kosheen, Stefanie Werger, Nik P., The Commodores, and Count Basic, with many more announcements to follow in the months to come.

Donauinsel fest is being held in Vienna's park in the centre of the Danube river between 17 and 19 June. The festival has been running since the early eighties and this year is expected to attract around 3 million visitors, making it one of the biggest free open air festivals in Europe.

Although free for revellers, the festival is thought to be profitable for the city of Vienna, bringing in around 40 million EUR through related tourism such as hotels and restaurants.
