Exploring photography and art through 1960s cult film Blow-Up

Vienna's Albertina is putting on an photography exhibition featuring stills from the cult sixties photography film Blow-Up by Michelangelo Antonioni.

The film about photography, sex, culture and murder in the swinging sixties, Blow-Up's iconic visuals means it is heralded as an important film for both the history of photography and art.

One of the exhibits at the Albertina will include a key photo from the film of a pair of lovers in the park, that in the film is taken secretly by the film's main character who believes he has captured a murder.

In addition to stills from the film, the exhibit is also showing works that were seen in the film and those that are commonly associated with the swinging sixties including from artists such as David Bailey and Terence Donovan.

The film was inspired in part by the life of David Bailey as well as by Julio Cortázar's short story, "Las babas del diablo" or "The Devil's Drool". It stars Vanessa Redgrave, David Hemmings, and Sarah Miles, and was Michelangelo Antonioni's first entirely English-language film.

The exhibition in Vienna runs from 30 April - 17 August 2014 and tickets and more information can be found at www.albertina.at
