Jetflyers Take The Jet Ski Onto The Road

An Austrian company is making waves after they came up with the idea of taking a jet ski – and fitting it with wheels.

The company that took the jet ski out of the water and put it on the road as an electric vehicle capable of going 50 miles on a single charge say that after unveiling the idea they were flooded with requests – and are now working round the clock to meet demand. Customers that have been in touch include electricity firms, McDonald's, the German Post Office and Vienna airport.

The jet ski on wheels known as the Jetflyer works in exactly the same way as its water bound brother, with the same sort of construction for steering that involves moving the front console. The other big difference of course is the fact it has an electric motor.

The Jetflyer can manage a top speed of just over 30 mph and it only takes an hour and a half to fully charge the battery, making it particularly interesting for companies that cannot afford to have their vehicles out of action for long periods of time.

And with every device being hand-finished to suit the customer, they have already created a model for golfers and another for firemen.

Company manager Michael Ritt said: "This year we are going to increase production of the Jetflyer up to 700 vehicles, most of which will be going to customers in Switzerland, Spain, Austria, and also with significant numbers going to Germany and Turkey.

"One of the popular things is our promotional offer 'Move my own vehicle' where the customer gets to help with the building of the machine by making all the individual requirements that they might need."

Known locally as the Styrian Segway because it is based in Stainz, a region in the Austrian province of Styria, the success of the new vehicle follows on from the success of their lightweight electric scooter known as the U-Carver which can go 25 kilometres and only needs an hour to charge.

This year the total production of Jetflyer vehicles will be 1,700 as well as 3,000 U-Carver scooters, and the company are taking on more staff to meet demand.
