Conchita Wurst and the Amazing Shrinking Facebook Page

https://www.facebook.com/pages/NEIN-zu-Conchita-Wurst-beim-Song-Contest/723559711002948

In Austria a Facebook page was set up that notched up over 37,000 likes calling for the star not to be allowed to go to Copenhagen, but after her victory, two days later, that had fallen by 1,000 as many seemed to have cancelled and removed their support for the anti Conchita campaign.

Even the site organiser, Gerhard Jungmann, decided to step down as administrator of the site once it became clear how many fans Conchita had.

It had previously attracted prominent names from Austrian musical circles like Andrea Fendrich and Christian Bedecker.

There was also a petition in Austria that invited Austrian licence fee payers write to the Austrian state ORF TV demanding that they choose someone else.

In its statement of intent the organisers said: "We call on the ORF to change its decision to send "Conchita Wurst" to the Eurovisions Song Contest 2014, and we demand instead either a public vote,  in which other Austrian artists get the chance to take part, or if that is too expensive, then let someone independent decide."

Conchita replied: "Surely there are more important things that one can put energy into? What about fighting for the rights of people that are discriminated against and not against them?"
