Kurz website hacked by pro-Erdogan Turkish group

The website of Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz has been hacked by Turkish government supporters in response to remarks the Austrian politician made to Turkey's Prime Minister.

Kurz had on 13 June "warned" Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan against introducing "splits into Austrian society" during his visit to the country in June.

Three days later on 16 June Kurz's website had been hacked by the pro-Turkish government group Cyber-Warrior Akıncılar (Raiders), who posted photos of both Erdoğan and Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent, one of the longest ruling Sultan's in the Ottoman era.

A message was also posted on the website in three languages, which read:

"Austria foreign minister! Who do you think you are kiddy! You cannot decide how to talk to our prime minister! Erdoğan the prime minister is the grandson of ancestors who reached Vienna, the soil you're walking on now! We are Akıncılar [Raiders], We are Ottomans, We are Turkey!."

The office of Kurz has confirmed that the post was up on the website for three hours on Monday before it was taken down.

Kurz is not the first person to be the victim of a cyber attack from "Ottoman activists" who have previously targeted Christian websites as well.
