Noisy neighbours attacked with Samurai sword

A man angry with his noisy neighbours in Vienna decided to persuade them to keep quiet by threatening them with his Samurai sword.

The 27-year-old in the district of Favoriten told a court on Monday that he brandished the weapon at his 29-year-old neighbour whilst he was carrying out renovations on his apartment. A dispute had been 'fermenting' between the two men for some time, mainly over a toilet in the building that the two had to share, the Vienna Regional Criminal Court heard,

The younger man reached boiling point in December last year when his neighbour began noisy renovations on his apartment, which he was doing up with the help of his brother.

The 29-year-old told the court how the Samurai wielding man "lifted up the sword in both hands and approached us".

The two men retreated back into the flat and called the police. When officers arrived they knocked on the door of the Samurai owner who answered with his sword still in his hand. The police also found machetes and crossbows in his flat.

The hearing has been adjourned indefinitely for supplementary evidence to be submitted.
